The moment a baby is born, a mother is born too.
And honestly, that season goes by in such a blur.
Those first few weeks are exhausting, emotional, exciting, messy, beautiful, and overwhelming all at the same time. You’re figuring out feedings, sleeping schedules, recovery, and trying to soak in every little newborn snuggle before it changes again overnight.
Most moms aren’t thinking about photos during those first days. Or sometimes you think about it after baby arrives and suddenly realize newborn photographers are already booked out.
I get it completely.
But newborn photos are so much more important than most parents realize in the moment.
Your baby is only this tiny once. Those flaky little toes, sleepy stretches, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, the way they fit perfectly on your chest… it changes so fast. Faster than you think it will.
As a newborn photographer here in Puyallup, one of my favorite things is getting to meet families during this stage of life. There is just something so special about walking into a room filled with brand new love and excitement. I seriously have the best job.
I also get asked all the time what the “best” age is for newborn photos. Some photographers love photographing babies super fresh within the first week, but honestly? I love babies around 21 days old.
By then, they’ve usually settled in a little more after those first couple crazy weeks. They still curl up beautifully and sleep so deeply during sessions, but they’re often a little less sensitive from that very first growth spurt.
Every baby is different of course, but around that age tends to be such a sweet spot.
At the end of the day, newborn photos are not really about perfect poses or trendy setups. They’re about remembering what this season felt like. The tiny details. The connection. The beginning of your story together.
One day your baby won’t fit in your arms like this anymore.
And I promise you’ll never regret having the photos.
