There is something about spring colors and flowers that never gets old. Every time I get to create a floral cake smash setup, I end up wanting to leave it up in the studio forever.

This sweet birthday girl came in to celebrate turning one with her family. We started the session with family portraits before moving into her custom cake smash. I always encourage families to hop in for a few pictures because first birthdays are a milestone for everyone, not just the birthday baby. Before you know it, they'll be running around, talking, and keeping you on your toes!


For her cake smash, Mom chose a beautiful wildflower-inspired theme with soft spring colors and plenty of florals. It was the perfect mix of sweet, colorful, and timeless.

One thing I loved about this little girl was that she knew exactly who she was. She wasn't the super smiley, outgoing type, and that's completely okay! Every baby has their own personality, and I never expect them all to react the same way. Some babies spend the whole session laughing, while others are more serious and take everything in. I love capturing those little expressions because they're part of who they are at this age.

Once the cake came out, though, she was all in.


She loved digging into it, tasting every bite, and making the biggest mess. Frosting ended up everywhere, which is exactly how a cake smash should be! Watching babies explore new textures and flavors is one of my favorite parts of these sessions.


To finish everything off, she splashed around in the tub for a bubble bath cleanup. The bath splash is included with my Platinum Cake Smash package and is also available as an add-on for any cake smash session. Not only is it an easy way to clean all the frosting off, but it's also one of the cutest parts of the entire experience. Most babies absolutely love playing in the bubbles, and it always makes for adorable photos to end the session.
