One of my favorite things about spring in Puyallup is when the lupines start blooming at Van Lierop Park.

These sweet sisters were so much fun to photograph. They spent the evening hugging, laughing, and enjoying time together while surrounded by the lupines. Sessions like this are a great reminder that photos don't always need elaborate setups. Sometimes all you need is a beautiful location, great light, and kids being themselves.
Why Van Lierop Park is Perfect for Spring Photos
Van Lierop Park is one of my favorite locations for spring mini sessions because it offers something you just don't see all year long. The blooming lupines create a gorgeous sea of purple flowers that make every session feel a little magical.
The park is perfect for:
- Family photos
- Child portraits
- Maternity sessions
- Mommy & Me sessions
- Senior pictures
- Spring mini sessions
The flowers typically bloom for only a few weeks each year, which makes this one of the most popular spring photo locations in the Puyallup area.
A Short Season Worth Planning For
One of the reasons I love offering lupine mini sessions is because they're only available for a limited time. Before you know it, the flowers are gone and we have to wait until next year.
The combination of blooming flowers, green grass, and warm evening sunlight creates a beautiful setting that doesn't need much else. Nature does most of the decorating for us.
What to Wear for Lupine Field Photos
If you're planning a session during lupine season, soft colors always photograph beautifully.
Some of my favorites include:
- Blush pink
- Cream
- Light blue
- Sage green
- Soft lavender
- Neutral earth tones
These colors work well with the purple flowers and help keep the focus where it belongs: on your family.
Why Spring Mini Sessions are So Popular
Spring is one of the best times of year to update family photos. Everything is starting to bloom, the weather is comfortable, and kids are
usually excited to be outside exploring.
Mini sessions are also a great option if you've been putting off family photos because you're worried your kids won't last through a full session. Shorter sessions often work wonderfully for younger children and still give you plenty of beautiful images.
Looking for a Puyallup Family Photographer?
If you're hoping to capture your family during the lupine bloom at Van Lierop Park, I always recommend booking early.
The bloom season is short and these sessions tend to fill quickly.
Whether you're looking for updated family photos, milestone portraits, maternity photos, or spring mini sessions, I'd love to
help you capture this season of life.
After all, these little moments don't stay little for long.
