Your baby's first birthday is one of the biggest milestones of their first year, but celebrating doesn't always have to include a cake smash. This adorable little guy came into my Puyallup studio for a simple child portrait session to celebrate turning one, proving that timeless portraits can be just as meaningful.

While he definitely made us work for those smiles, the two we earned were absolutely worth the wait!

Celebrating One Without a Cake Smash



Cake smash sessions are incredibly popular, but they aren't the right fit for every family.

Some parents simply want beautiful portraits that focus on their child's personality without the mess. A milestone portrait session is the perfect option for capturing this exciting age while keeping the session simple and timeless.

Every Child Has Their Own Personality



One-year-olds are wonderfully unpredictable, and that's part of what makes photographing them so much fun.

This sweet little boy wasn't interested in handing out smiles right away. Instead, he spent much of the session carefully observing everything around him. We played games, made silly noises, and worked together to capture those genuine expressions.

By the end, we earned two adorable smiles that made the entire session worthwhile. Sometimes it's those hard-earned smiles that become parents' favorite images because they're completely authentic.


Milestone Sessions Capture More Than Smiles


Not every photo has to feature a huge grin.

Some of my favorite portraits are the ones that showcase a child's curiosity, thoughtful expressions, and sweet little personality. These are the moments parents recognize every day at home and will love looking back on for years to come.

The goal is always to capture your child exactly as they are during this stage of life.
